General Notes: Husband - James Book

He was reared in his native township and learned the trades of stonemason and shoemaker, which he fol-lowed there and at New Castle, Pennsylvania. He subsequently purchased a farm in Cherry township, Butler County. After his settle-ment in Cherry township he worked at the stonemason's trade in connection with his farm until a few years preceding his death. He was one of the original members of Zion Baptist church, and in politics, he was a Democrat.

During the infancy of their son, Charles, he and his wife returned to their farm in Worth Township, Butler County, on which they had previously lived, and remained in Worth Township until 1859, when they settled on land in Cherry Township. At that time the land was nothing short of a wilderness. He cleared it and erected a comfortable dwelling. This property was later owned by their two sons, Charles H. and Uriah H.
