He came from Centre County, Pennsylvania, to Venango County in 1838, and purchased a farm of two hundred and fourteen acres in Jackson township. He was a carpenter by trade, and combined that vocation with farming. In politics he was a Democrat, and in religion a member of the Presbyterian church.
