General Notes: Husband - Phillip Howard Sechler

Butler, Butler Co, PA

He was educated in the public schools of his native place and in Princeton Academy, Lawrence County. He went into the monumental business as an apprentice to Mr. A. Bowers, in Prospect, his native county, and after working with Mr. Bowers for three years he bought out his interests and continued to operate the business. In 1905 Mr. Sechler established a shop in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the business grew so consistently that it soon became by far the largest monumental plant in Butler County. Mr. Sechler spent the greater part of his time in the Butler plant. His son, Wendell Holmes Sechler, was affiliated with him in the business. They shipped their monuments and stones within a radius of two hundred miles, employed seven people, and had an aggregate floor space of approximately 4,000 square feet in the interior, and as much or more in yards. In politics Mr. Sechler was a Republican. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of the Knights of the Maccabees, of the Woodmen of the World, and of the Protected Home Circle. He belonged to the Butler Board of Commerce, and in religion was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
