Civil War: he was in Co. A, 135th Penna. volunteers for nine months, in the second battalion of Penna. six months volunteers, and in Co. D, 206th Penna volunteers about one year. In the latter he went as orderly sergeant.

He was connected with the W. P. R. R. for thirteen years or more, beginning as a freight brakeman, and later acting as conductor of the express.
