He was reared on a farm, and engaged in farming all his life. He resided on his own farm about sixty-four years. In politics he was a Republican. He and his wife were members of the Baptist Church, in which he was a deacon for nearly fifty years.
By his first marrigae, he was the father of ten children, five of whom were still living in 1888.
By his second marriage there were seven children, four still living in 1888.
By his third marriage there was one child.
