General Notes: Wife - Opal Martin Surrena

She and her husband owned and operated Blairs Hardware in Clintonville, PA, later selling this store and buying another in Parker, PA. She not only helped in the hardware store, she did clerical work for Rankin Lumber Company. They were also a husband and wife auction team - a familiar scene on the auctioneering block. They were graduates of Reish School of Auctioneering at Mason City, Iowa, in 1962. Opal was one of the very few women who were members of the National Auctioneering Association. In the year of 1969 there were only three licensed women auctioneers in the state of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge Nursery Chapter #25 at Franklin, PA, and a chapter member of Queen Ester White Shrine #49, Oil City, PA.
