General Notes: Husband - Charles Austin Black


He was reared in Grove City, Pennsylvania, and received his education in the common schools and at Grove City College. He was then associated with his father and worked for him in his business. He attended the Cleveland Embalming School, from which he was graduated. When his father died in 1891 he became the manager of the business, the firm name of which was J. H. Black & Son. In politics he was a Prohibitionist; he was a member of the Masonic order and of the Presbyterian faith.
