General Notes: Husband - 'Squire Matthew Gaut

Tyrone Twp, Fayette Co, PA

He must have located near Jacob's Creek, in what became Lower Tyrone, some time before 1793, as we find him mentioned as auditor of accounts in that year.

He was a farmer and justice of the peace for many years.

All of his sons save Joseph early emigrated to the west.

He was a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, immigrated to New Jersey, soon removed to New York where he married, and then emigrated to Tyrone township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He settled on Jacob's creek and patented a tract of four hundred acres of land. He was a presbyterian and a democrat and was a blacksmith by trade. He served as justice of the peace. [BHCWC, 454]

General Notes: Wife - Sarah Bird

She was of German descent.
