General Notes: Husband - John Sterling Bird

He graduated from the Kansas State Teachers' College at Emporia, KS, in 1905, and received further training at Chicago University. He taught in the College at Emporia, KS, for a few years and on the founding of the Western State College at Hays, KS, he was transferred to that institution in 1906 where he taught sciences. Later he resigned to devote his time to publication of the Ellis County News of Hays which he had purchased. While engaged in newspaper work he also formed a real estate agency. He was a member of the Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus.
