General Notes: Husband - Lt. James Birchard


He was appointed first lieutenant in the English army by King George III. When the War of the Revolution broke out it was his desire to fight with the Continental army, but because of his oath to the Crown was not permitted to do this, and sent a substitute to fight for him.
