General Notes: Husband - Jacob Stouffer

He learned the trade of wagon building, and went to Clermont County, Ohio, in 1834. There he bought a piece of land, paying one dollar and twenty-five cents per acre. He returned to Westmoreland County in 1857, locating in Unity township, where he established himself in the wagon building business. He joined the Church of God, and was a consistent member of that congregation until his death, which occurred in 1889. In politics he was at first an old line Whig, then joined the Know-Nothing party, and finally became a Republican. He never held public office. He was a member of the Greensburg Blues and was a guard at the execution of Evans in 1830. In 1848 he enlisted and started to the seat of war, but on arriving at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the war being over, the company was sent back to Greensburg and discharged.
