General Notes: Husband - George Anshutz Berry


He was reared near Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania, where he attended the public schools and the old Boalsburg Academy, later becoming a student at Washington and Jefferson College, from which he graduated in 1868. He then began the study of law, and for one year read under the instruction of James A. Beaver, later the governor of Pennsylvania, at Bellefonte. Following this he went to Ebensburg, Cambria County, and studied with J. M. Reade, an eminent attorney of that place. He was admitted to the bar of Cambria County in March, 1871, and immediately entered upon the practice of his profession. For two years he was successful, but on account of failing health he was obliged to abandon work, and for a year he devoted his time to travel and sight-seeing. Regaining his health he, in 1874, located in Warren County, Pennsylvania, and in December, 1875, removed to Bradford, where he began active practice, after being admitted to the bar of McKean County in February, 1876. Mr. Berry was a Republican in politics, served one term as chief burgess of Ebensburg, and as a member of the school board of Bradford. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity. [HMEF, 333]

His education was begun in the public schools, continued in Boalsburg Academy and completed in Washington and Jefferson College, whence he was graduated, class of 1868. Having chosen the profession of law he began studying at Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, under the preceptorship of Judge McAlister, father-in-law of Governor Beaver, and Governor Beaver and Mr. Berry read law at the same time in Judge McAlister's office. He finished his legal preparation at Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, under the eminent attorney of Cambria county, J. M. Reade. He was admitted to the bar of Cambria county in March, 1871, and at once began the practice of his profession. He continued successfully for two years when failing health compelled him to desist. For a year he traveled and rested-finding his health in a large measure restored he began practice in Tidioute, Pennsylvania, in 1874, but after a year there moved his business and residence to Bradford. He was admitted to the McKean county bar in February, 1876, and continued there in active practice until his death. He was a Republican in politics, serving Bradford as chief burgess and school commissioner. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and a man of high character, learned in the law and skillful in its application. [GPHNP, 274]


General Notes: Wife - Kate Irvine Parker


She was educated in the State Normal School at Limestone, New York, and was married at the age of nineteen years. She was a member of the Universalist church and of the Bradford Country Club.
