General Notes: Husband - Jacob Berlin

Among the early settlers at Manor, Franklin (now Penn) township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, were many from Northampton, York, Adams and Franklin counties, also in Pennsylvania. Many Germans were among these settlers. There were Berlins, of German origin, among the earliest settlers in Penn township. About the time of the Whiskey Insurrection, Jacob Berlin, born 1765, came from east of the mountains, and settled at Manor. From him the present family is probably descended. He died January 27, 1856. He married Annie [surname unknown], born December 14, 1757, died May 28, 1853. [GPHAV, 654]

In 1794 one of the soldiers who came from Eastern Pennsylvania in the army to put down the "Whiskey Insurrection" was Jacob Berlin. He got a furlough in Pittsburgh to come out to that part of Franklin township later included in Penn, to visit his uncle, Jacob Berlin, who had settled there some twenty years before. He so liked the country that in the spring of 1795 he returned with his wife and settled between the Fink and Lauffer farms.

He was an old resident of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, who came very early to Clarion county and settled in Beaver township. There he cleared up a farm of over a hundred acres in extent. He was by trade a tailor. He had many children, most of whom died young. [GPHAV, 774]

He came to western Pennsylvania from York County, and settled in then Franklin township, Westmoreland County. He was a farmer and reared a large family. [GPHAV, 928]
