He spent almost his entire life in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and died at the age of 68 years. He was a trader by occupation, buying and selling wool extensively.

He served three years in the Civil War as quartermaster of the 140th Pa. Vol. Inf. and was a member of the G. A. R.
