General Notes: Husband - Robert Bell

Some time previous to 1765, he came to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, from Virginia, on horseback, for the purpose of viewing the lands of western Pennsylvania. What his opinion was respecting the land can not be determined, as he was thrown from his horse and killed within sight of his home. Soon after this, however, his two sons, James and John Bell, came to Allegheny County, and settled on Charles [Chartiers?] creek, the former purchasing some four hundred acres on the west and the latter some six hundred acres on the east side of the creek. Soon after this settlement the balance of Robert Bell's family also came to Allegheny County, where they remained and died.

He was born in county Tyrone, Ireland, and came to the south branch of the Potomac river, Virginia, and there engaged in farming and stock raising near where now stands the town of Romney, Virginia. In 1765 he came over into what is now Pennsylvania, along Chartiers creek. Being impressed with the looks of the country and its resources, he returned home with the intention of moving his family there, but died in the meantime. His family, which consisted of his wife and children\emdash eight sons\emdash removed to the Chartiers creek country and became the first settlers in that section, which was where the town of Carnegie, Pennsylvania, now stands.
