Merle R. Bell
Merle R. (Bus) Bell, 66, of Palatka, Fla., a Clarion County native, died at 2:30 p.m. Thurs­day at Palatka Memorial Hos­pital in Florida.
Born June 26, 1927, in Man­or, Paint Township, Clarion County, he was the son of Dorothy J. Boyer Bell of Strat­tanville and the late Raymond T. Bell.
Mr. Bell lived in this area for most of his life.
Mr. Bell was employed as a truck driver, and he worked for several trucking corporations in the area.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and he served on the carrier U.S.S. Philippine Sea, which had the distinction of serving with Admiral Richard E. Byrd's expedition to the Ant­arctic.
Mr. Bell also was with the Fairbanks Air Service in Fair­banks, Alaska.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy J. Bell of Strattanville; six sisters, Ruth G. Hetrick of Sebastian, Fla., Pauline Bell of Brookville, Lois M. Exley of Interlachen, Fla., Phyllis A. Fiamella of North East, Lucille Malmgren of Erie and Bonnie J. Bell of Strattanville; and six brothers, Edgar L. Bell of Strattanville, Fred N. Bell of Clyde, Ohio, Lee Bell of Wilkes-Barre, William T. Bell of Warren, Raymond W. Bell of Knox and Robert Bell of Clarion.
Mr. Bell is also survived by some nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Mr. Bell was preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca J. Cochran.
Mr. Bell's wishes were to be cremated and buried at sea.
A memorial service for fami­ly and friends will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Manor Methodist Church.
