He received his preliminary education in the high schools of Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and in Washington and Jefferson College, graduating from the latter institution in 1894, and from the medical department of the University of Pennsylvania in 1897. He succeeded to the practice of his father in Butler and continued to practice there until 1902, when he removed to Arizona.
