General Notes: Husband - James G. Graff


He received his education in the schools of Indiana County, Pennsylvania, whither he removed with his parents when quite young. Working on the farm during his early years, he later took up the study of civil engineering, attending Allegheny College, from which he was graduated in 1888. Going West, he located in Chicago, where he found his life work. He was the engineer in charge of the construction of the Madison street cable line, made the topographical surveys of Jackson park for the national commission preliminary to the selection of the site for the Columbian Exposition, made the surveys for the Cicero & Proviso electric railway, and in 1890 was elected county surveyor of Cook county, Illinois. He was reelected in 1904.
He was a member of the Adams Street M. E. Church, which he served as trustee and assistant superintendent of the Sunday school.
