General Notes: Husband - John Kerner

Another source states that he was born about 1736.

He was probably born in the Philadelphia - Berks County area of Pennsylvania.

He fought in the colonial forces during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted at Reading, Berks County, in 1775 as a rifleman in Colonel Thompson's Regiment in the company commanded by Captain George Nagle. He was discharged in July of 1776 on Long Island and returned to Reading where he re-enlisted in the company commanded by Captain Mouser and afterwards Captain Finney's company in the Sixth Regiment of the Pennsylvania line commanded by Colonel Harmen. According to his pension papers, he was wounded in the hand and lost two fingers at the Battle of Litchfield's Point. He also saw action at the battle of Scotch Plains, the taking of the Hessians at Trenton (December, 1776), Princeton (January, 1777) and the battle of Brandywine (September, 1777). He may have served in the colonial forces until 1781.
After the war, he seems to have settled in the wilderness of Northumberland County in the central part of Pennsylvania. In 1786, he was living in Penns township, Northumberland County. In 1788, he sold some land in Penns township. In 1813 he is found living in White Deer township, Northumberland County, (now Union County). He left White Deer township by 1816. He was living in Union County in May, 1818, when he applied for his pension. He was probably living in Washington township where his son George was living. In late 1818 or early 1819, he moved to Ferguson township, Centre County where he died. [DKM, 1]
