He was a graduate of Butler, Pennsylvania, High School in 1902, Duff's Business College, Pittsburgh, in 1904; was with the Guaranty Trust Company of Butler for eight years and with the Standard Steel Car shops as pay roll clerk for twelve years, later in the city treasurer's office.
