He attended Graham School and graduated from Rocky Grove High School with his brother Owen in 1917. He was employed in industry before continuing his education at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon), Pittsburgh. He was employed by the Franklin Evening News and as production manager at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. Later he lived in Ohio where he was associated with the White Motor Company and the Spicer Manufacturing Company. His specialty was designing gears and he sold a patent for a continuous mining machine to Joy Manufacturing Co. He lived in Columbus, Ohio, till shortly before his death.
