He was a prosperous farmer of Forward Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, for many years and specialized in the breeding of pure bred stock.

He and his wife had ten children, two of whom died in infancy.

He died in 1908 at the age of 65 years. [HBC 1927, 1151] But this does not agree with the year of birth given by another source.
