He was of a roving disposition. He went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when quite young, and from there to California the time of the first gold excitement. He came back to Pittsburgh, married and returned again to California. His wife died, and he returned to Pittsburgh with the children.
Later, he was living in West Virginia, where he had stencil and seal works.
