General Notes: Husband - Carlyle Wolford


He spent his early life on the Cherry township farm, Butler County, Pennsylvania, where he received a good public school education. He then entered Edinboro State Normal School, and finished his studies at Iron City Business College, whence he was graduated, class of 1875. He began business life by purchasing an interest in two oil wells from which he pumped oil in profitable quantities. From this start he extended his operations to include contracting and drilling oil wells in the Butler county field. He resided in Karns City until 1877, then moved to Cherry township, where he lived on a farm until 1879; was a resident of Meadville until 1882; then of Bolivia, finally in 1884 settled in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. During the years mentioned and after, he was a successful oil and gas producer. He was connected at various times as stockholder and official of several enterprises of McKean County, including the Citizens' Gas Company of Port Allegany; director and superintendent of the Coudersport Gas Light and Heating Company; second vice-president of the Citizens' National Bank; a director of the first National Bank of Port Allegany.
He was a Republican in politics, and served as burgess of Port Allegany, and as member of the borough council. He stood high in the Masonic order, belonging to Liberty Lodge, No. 505, Free and Accepted Masons, of which he was past worshipful master; Arnold Chapter, No. 254, Royal Arch Masons; St. John's Commandery (Olean, New York), Knights Templar; Zem Zem Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (Erie, Pennsylvania); Coudersport Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, in which he attained the thirty-second degree. He was a member of Port Allegany Club.

She was past matron of Myrtle Chapter, No. 46, Order of the Eastern Star, Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
