General Notes: Husband - John Robinson Wick

He was born in 1812. [GPHAV, 434]

He was reared on the old family home-stead, and acquired a good practical education in the local schools. At the age of nineteen he began teaching, and for seventeen winters successfully followed that profession, while during the summer months he engaged in farming. In 1849 he embarked in merchandising in Matildasville, Clarion County, where he also served as post-master, but at the end of two years and a half sold out to J. B. Grasor. He was then married, and returned to the old homestead, which he hired cultivated, while in partnership with another gentleman, he engaged in selling the old-fashioned bee hives. He also engaged in cattle dealing and in teaching until coming to Rimersburg, in 1868, to settle up his brother's estate. At first it was not his intention to remain, but he thereafter made that place his home, and was actively identified with its business interests.

He received an excellent education in the public schools, and in very early life began as a teacher in the district schools. In 1866 he removed to Rimersburg, Clarion County, where he accepted a position as bookkeeper and accountant, and became so efficient in this line of work and as a business man generally, that in 1874 he was appointed cashier of the bank at Rimersburg. He was afterward made cashier at different times of two other banks in the same city, and served for nineteen years as its postmaster. He was a man of many business interests, engaging in merchandise in partnership with Dr. McCandless, and having property in coal lands and other real estate; though he was more widely known as a shrewd and successful banker, passing this reputation on to his son who succeeded him when he finally retired from business life. He became very prominent in the public service, being a lieutenant-colonel on Governor Polk's staff; he was a Republican in his political convictions, being very active in the affairs of his party. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; he belonged to the Presbyterian church in which he served as an elder from his early manhood, and in which he was a conspicuous light until his death, at the venerable age of eighty-one years. [GPHAV, 434] This seems so different from the description given by the other source - note particularly the birth and death dates - that one wonders if it might represent a different person - perhaps his brother James?
