He came from county Derry, Ireland, to Derry township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was a weaver by trade and after several years' residence on a farm, he removed to Blairsville where he afterwards died. He had five sons and five daughters, of whom three sons and three daughters were living in 1890.
