He was a native of Bavaria, Germany, in which country he lived until grown, coming to America at the age of nineteen years. He had learned the trade of tailor, and he followed it for a number of years at Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, whence he eventually removed to Michigan. He spent the remainder of his life in that state, engaged at his trade until his death, which occurred when he was fifty-four years old.
