General Notes: Husband - John Vance


His education was re­ceived in the public schools of the neighborhood of his home. In 1883 he commenced, in connec­tion with general farming, the business of stock-breeding, especially of Percheron horses. His farm comprised 286 acres of highly improved land. He was a consistent member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington, in which he was an elder beginning in 1878, having succeeded his father in that office; politically he was a Republican, and always took an active interest in the affairs of the party.
