General Notes: Husband - Col. David Vance

He held a position on the staff of General Washington, being an intimate friend of that officer and statesman. He was compelled to resign his place as advisor to General Washington and to retire from active service because of the increasing infirmities of fast approaching old age, he being at the time of his military service far past the prime of life.
