General Notes: Husband - Anthony W. Van Leer

He went to Nashville, Tennessee [from Pennsylvania?], and became one of the wealthiest iron-masters of Tennessee.
One of his daughters, Mrs. Polk, married a cousin of President Polk, and one of her daughters married one of the highest barons in Italy, and another a French count. Her son, Van Leer Polk, of Tennessee was Consul-General of the United States to Calcutta, India. Mrs. Polk moved to Rome, Italy, during the Civil War, and the family were intimate friends of King Humbert. Her daughter and her husband were warm friends of the Marquis and Marchioness of Lorne, and exchanged visits.
The descendants of A. W. Van Leer's other daughter, Mrs. Kirkham [Kirkman?], lived in Nashville, being among the wealthiest people of that place. Her daughter married Capt Drouillard, U. S. Army, who became a Tennessee iron-master after the [Civil?] war.
