General Notes: Husband - William Beatty

He was educated in the common schools. His father died when he was ten years old, and his school days were consequently cut short, because of the need of his services to sustain the family. He spent his early days on the farm, and later gave his attention to stock growing. In 1874 he formed a partnership under the firm name of Bright & Beatty, and dealt in boots and shoes at Greenville, PA. After a period of success he withdrew, and subsequently re-entered the same business with his son, J. P. In 1884 Fred, another son, was taken into the firm, and they continued until 1886. In 1884 he was elected a county commissioner, and served as president of the board with credit and ability. Mr. and Mrs. Beatty were consistent members of the Presbyterian Church, and he was a stanch Republican. The ancestors of Mr. Beatty nearly all lived to a ripe old age, and were closely identified with the Presbyterian Church. It was about 1802 or 1803 when the first of the Beattys came to Mercer County, PA. [HMC 1888, 774]
