He was educated in St. Paul's parochial school, Butler, Pennsylvania. After he completed his school work he was a clerk in the Charles Duffy store, where he remained five years. He then went to Pittsburgh, where he was employed by the Pittsburgh Dry Goods Company and at Kaufman's store, remaining six months with each store. He returned to Butler and clerked for Kidd & Wright, Clothiers, two years. In 1908 he was made manager and buyer for George Ketterer & Son, formerly the store of B. H. Horton Company. He resigned his position in 1913 and went to New Castle for Winter Brothers, clothiers, as manager of the furnishing department. He returned to Butler in 1914 and went with George Ketterer & Son, as manager and buyer for this store. In February, 1916, he became associated with the Hart-Graham Son's Company, and in 1918 became interested in the firm financially. In 1921 Mr. Turgeon established the Turgeon & McCarren store, his partner being C. R. McCarren. The firm carried a complete line of boys' and men's clothing, having an exclusive department for boy's wear in the basement.
