General Notes: Husband - Alexander Scroggs Work

When he was four years old his father moved with his family to Squirrel Hill, at the foot of Ligonier Valley, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and three years later to Indiana County, to what was later known as the old Elijah I. Work farm. Until he was 26 years old, he lived with his father, helping to clear and improve the farm. About this time he married and settled on a farm later owned by Robert H. Work. Seven years later he purchased a farm 1½ miles farther down the creek and moved his family there, where he spent the remainder of his life. He and four of his brothers lived on adjoining farms, and he was a successful farmer. He was an Elder in the Seceder Church until it united with the Union Seceders, forming the U. P. Church. He held the same office in the U. P. Church until death.
