He read medicine with his elder brother, and was a graduate of the Cleveland Medical College in the class of 1883. He located in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, and afterward spent a short time in Allegheny City. Then he settled in a thriving town in eastern Kansas about 1885.

He was a physician, practicing his profession first in Allegheny City and Beaver, Pennsylvania, later at Chetopa, Kansas, for twenty years, and finally at Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he died.
