He spent two years in Susquehanna College, and, after a short time at West Nottingham Academy, Maryland, entered Princeton in 1870, from which institution he was graduated in 1874. He then entered upon the study of law, and was admitted to the bar in 1876, and in 1883 was elected to be prosecuting attorney of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the firm of Stuart & Stuart, attorneys at law, Carlisle.
