He grew to maturity on his father's farm, and in 1875 engaged as a pumper and soon afterwards embarked in oil producing. In 1888 he went into the drug business at Edenburg, Clarion county, PA, and in 1892 located at Karns City, where he established and carried on the same business. He was a Republican in politics, and served as a member of the borough council. He was a prominent member of Karns City Lodge, Number 931, I. O. O. F., and of Derrick Lodge, Number 456, K. of P.
