General Notes: Husband - William Stewart

He was born and reared in Scotland and immigrated to America about the year 1750. He located in Clarion County, Pennsylvania, and there was married and reared to maturity a family of ten children.
----- This information is likely wrong. Clarion County was not settled until after the purchase of the land from the Indians by the treaty of 1784. There are at least two possibilities: 1. He immigrated about the year given, but settled elsewhere, his children were born there, and then the family immigrated to Clarion County. 2. He immigrated much later than this source states and thus his children (or most of them) were born in the homeland and came to America with their parents. Other sources discussing his son William state that he was born in Ireland, which gives some support to this second view.

A number of his sons, when grown to manhood, moved to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and others to the state of Ohio. They were described by one who knew them as being very large, strong men, good natured and not at all quarrelsome. As proof, this little anecdote is related. A drunken bully once insisted that Galbraith should fight with him. Galbraith refused, but upon the other still insisting he finally consented to a "stand-up fight." He proceeded to knock his opponent down with the first blow and then cried: "Foul play! foul play! It was to be a stand-up fight and he is down." The bully slunk away and never again insisted upon fighting with him.
