Civil War: he was in the 2d battalion six months, Pennsylvania volunteers and Co. A, 206th Pennsylvania volunteers, about one year.

He served Indiana County, Pennsylvania, as County Commissioner, and also as Justice of the Peace. He was very successful in farming and took special pride in having good stock of all kinds on his farm near Ambrose.
