General Notes: Husband - Jacob Beamer

Manor, Westmoreland Co, PA

All his life he was a very diligent student of scientific subjects, including geology, astronomy, ethnology and phrenology, and for more than a quarter of a century he lectured on these subjects, traveling throughout the United States and Canada as well as in Europe. October 16, 1862, enlisted in Co. K, 116th regt. Pa. Vols. (Col. Jack), and served until discharged July 13, 1863. He was a sergeant in the ranks but was kept on detached service most of the time in the Carolinas under Gen. Foster. Prof. Beamer was a member of Greensburg Post, No. 276, G. A. R., was a prohibitionist in principle and was connected with the Presbyterian church.
