General Notes: Husband - Abraham K. Stauffer

He was educated in the common schools adjacent to his home, and resided on the homestead farm until the age of twenty-one years. For several years prior to attaining his majority he was engaged with his father in the distilling business, and later in company with his brother Joseph purchased the business from their father and conducted the same for a number of years under the style of J. R. Stauffer & Company. In 1873 they began to operate coal mines and built coke ovens in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, which they operated under the firm name of J. R. Stauffer & Company. Being a man of good busi-ness ability, practical and progressive in his methods, he not only gained a comfortable livelihood but a goodly competence for his declining years. He was vice-president of the Scottdale Foundry and Machine Company, of which he was at one time president.
