General Notes: Husband - Wesley I. Sipe

He received his education in the schools of Clearfield Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and was graduated from the Chicora High School, Cochranton High School, and McElwain Institute, in Mercer County. He taught school three terms in Donegal Township. He began his business career with the Chicora Whip Company, as one of its representatives, and after a year or so returned to Fenelton, where he successfully engaged in the general mercantile business for twenty-four years. Disposing of his interests at Fenelton, he went to Butler, and was associated, beginning in April, 1923, in the insurance business at that place with Carl M. Miller. Aside from his insurance business, Mr. Sipe engaged in various other activities. He was the promoter of the Fenelton Telephone Company, which was later taken over by the People's Telephone Company of Butler, later the People's Telephone Corporation. He was also one of the promoters of the Sipe-Ferguson Coal Company, whose holdings were afterward held by the Consolidated Coal Company of Butler. He also had oil interests in Butler County. Mr. Sipe also engaged in the oil and gas business in Butler County quite extensively for a period of over twenty years. For six years he was president of the W. I. Sipe Oil and Gas Company. For a number of years Mr. Sipe engaged in the automobile business at Fenelton. He was the owner of the first successful automobile in Clearfield Township. [HBC 1927, 856]
