General Notes: Husband - Edwin S. Templeton, Esq.

He graduated from Thiel College in June, 1875, and the same fall was appointed to a clerkship in the office of the Hon. John Allison, Register of the United States Treasury, where he remained two years. During this period he attended the law department of Columbian University, Washington, D. C., and graduated in June, 1877, thus becoming a member of the bar of that district. Mr. Templeton was admitted to the Mercer, Pennsylvania, bar in the fall of 1877, but for the succeeding two years devoted his attention to the oil business. In 1879 he commenced active practice in Greenville. Politically Mr. Templeton was a Republican of independent proclivities, and took an active interest in the practical reformatory movements of the day. [HMC 1888, 829]

He was an extensive realty holder in Texas, Alabama and Wyoming. Being a thorough and methodical business man, he acquired interests in many enterprises and paying financial institutions, including the First National Bank of Greenville, of which he was a stockholder and director; president of the Greenville Gas Company; president of the Mercer County Gas Company; secretary and treasurer of the Ashtabula Gas Company; president of the Creola (Ala.) Lumber Company; vice-president and treasurer of Kinchelof Irrigation Company of Glen Flora, Texas. He was also an officer in several reservoir, canal and development companies in Wyoming. He was the assistant general council for the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad Company and its predecessors beginning in 1884.
In his political party connections, he was an ardent supporter of Republican principles. In educational affairs he always took a lively interest, and served as school director for over ten years and was a trustee of Thiel College. He belonged to the Masonic order, Eureka Lodge, No. 290, F. & A. M., of which he was a Past Master. [HMC 1909, 403]
