General Notes: Husband - John A. Shillito


He was reared on the farm, attended school in Independence township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and at the age of sixteen went to Clinton, in Allegheny County, where he clerked for one year. Then he moved to Florence, Washington County, and clerked there three years. In April, 1855, he went to California, where he remained thirteen years, and during this time he was employed as salesman in a store, except three years he was mining in Nevada. Jan. 8, 1868, he returned home and embarked in a business, the firm of Shillito & Brother.
Both he and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church, of which he was trustee and treasurer.
