General Notes: Husband - James Alexander Shields

Greensburg, Westmoreland Co, PA

He was educated in the common schools of Salem township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and New Alexandria academy. His first employment was clerking in the store of John M. Stuart at New Alexandria. In the winter of 1871-72 he was graduated from Duff's Business college at Pittsburgh. From 1872 until 1877 he was bookkeeper for Turney Bros. In 1877 he became a member of the firm of Shields & Mechling, dealers in hardware, stoves, tin-roofing, buggies and agricultural implements.
