General Notes: Husband - George Hazzard Wattles Sherman


He was educated in the public schools of Oil City, Pennsylvania, and afterward entered the State Teachers College at Edinboro, where he was a student from 1898 to 1900. During the following two years he taught in the Pennsylvania public schools and then launched his business career. For a time, he was associated with the Oil Well Supply Company, resigning to enter the oil business in the middle West. He was connected with the United Natural Gas Company and its affiliates from 1912. He rose steadily in the organization on the basis of his record and experience and in 1927 was elected director and assistant secretary of the company.
As a resident of Oil City, Mr. Sherman was active in the work of local charities, the Young Men's Christian Association and various civic causes. He was affiliated fraternally with the Free and Accepted Masons and was prominent in the order as a member of all higher bodies of the Scottish Rite, including the thirty-second degree of the Consistory. Mr. Sherman was also a member of Acacia, Oil City Boat Club, Wanango Country Club and the Oil City Kiwanis Club. He was a Republican in politics and a member of the Presbyterian Church.
