He was a native of England, who immigrated to America early in the eighteenth century. His untimely death by drowning in Boston Harbor during a recreational swim left surviving him two sons and three daughters. One of the sons fought in the Revolutionary War and was killed in action near Boston.

There appears to be serious confusion about the early generations of this family.
