General Notes: Wife - Mary Frances Shaw

She was a graduate of the high school at Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, and the college preparatory department of the Central State Normal School, Lock Haven. After spending two years at Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, she graduated from Wellesley College in 1911, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. She was a young lady of brilliant attainments, receiving the highest honor Wellesley College had to bestow, Phi Beta Kappa Key; she was also a Durant scholar, a member of Zeta Alpha fraternity and of the Alliance Francaise, an exclusive French society. She became teacher of Latin in the high school at Jersey Shore. While she was canoeing on the Susquehanna river, near Williamsport, the canoe overturned, and she was drowned; it was nearly a week before the body was recovered.
