General Notes: Husband - David N. Shaw

In 1846 his father sold the farm in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and moved to Westmoreland County, settling near what is now Irwin. David received a common school education, and then cultivated the family farm which became his by inheritance. In 1870 he associated himself with the Penn Gas Coal Company, farming their lands, and was continuously connected with that company for thirty-five years. In 1862 he served in Company E, One Hundred and Twenty-third Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, for four months, being then honorably discharged for physical disability. He was associated with the United Presbyterian church beginning from the union of the two sects, and was an elder for over thirty years.
