General Notes: Husband - Jacob Hines

In 1853 he commenced work in the coal mines; later opened a hotel in Harrison City, in the conduct of which he was engaged for two years, and subsequently engaged in the mercantile business in Penn Station. He conducted a grocery store with good success at Harrison City, spending twenty-three years in the business.
In 1864, when the cloud of war overspread the country, Mr. Hines enlisted in Company E, Two Hundred and Sixth Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry, for one year. He was mustered into service at Greensburg and went from there to Baltimore, where he joined the Army of the Potomac. From Baltimore his regiment went to City Point, thence to winter quarters seven miles outside of Richmond, remaining there for five months. Mr. Hines was present at the capture of Richmond, and from there went to Lynchburg. After a short time the regiment returned to Richmond, and from there to Pittsburgh, where Mr. Hines was mustered out.
He was a Democrat in his political affiliations, and always evinced a lively interest in all party affairs. In church relations he was a Lutheran.
