General Notes: Husband - John Stark

He received his education in Germany, and after the death of his parents, he, together with a brother Valentine and a sister Anna, came to America, all three settling in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, near Carlisle. At the expiration of about five years they went to St. Louis, Missouri, thence to Illinois, where they purchased a farm on which they lived four years, and then returned to Pennsylvania, locating about 1839 in Franklin township, Westmoreland County. There they bought land and lived for many years. Mr. Stark owned nearly five hundred acres of good land and a large flouring mill at Manordale.
He served as school director in his township and as assistant assessor several years. He was a democrat, and with his wife belonged to the Lutheran church at what was called the Hill church, in which he held the offices of elder and trustee.
